GFI Software, a provider of managed web and email security services has acquired Los Angeles-based Katharion.

Katharion offers highly effective, outsourced anti-spam and anti-virus email filtering solutions for corporations, small businesses, Internet service providers and technology companies. The company is recognized as a leading managed email security service and has processed billions of messages for thousands of organizations worldwide.

Through this acquisition, GFI will be able to offer a hosted email filtering, anti-spam and anti-virus service later this quarter.

In addition, GFI will also be able to provide a range of additional or edge services that will benefit companies both with and without existing on-premise email security solutions.

However, the financial terms of the acquisition were not disclosed by both companies.
