The glove that inspired countless copycats and Halloween costumes after being unveiled in Michael Jackson's 1983 hit video 'Billie Jean', part of a 5-day auction by Julien's Auctions (www. juliensauctions. com), will be auctioned off next year. Part of the auction items, are also the grandiose gates that once led to his Neverland Ranch, together with more than 2,000 of Jackson's personal items.
The April sale to be held at the Beverly Hilton Hotel, will be broadcast live on Auction Network and will accept both in person and online bids. The King of Pop's possessions will be on display till 21st April 2009, when the auction begins, with the proceeds to be donated to MusiCares, a charitable organization founded by Recording Academy, which offers assistance to musicians in need. Highlights of the collection are also expected to go on a tour, including London, Tokyo, New York, Dubai and Santiago.
Jackson, who became a virtual recluse after being acquitted on his 2003 child-molestation charges, has been plagued with financial worries since, defaulting on payments for his sprawling Neverland property earlier this year, narrowly avoiding a foreclosure sale when the loan was bought by an investment firm. As well, last month his lawyers reached a $7-million breach-of-contract settlement, in a case brought by a Bahraini sheik.
Talking to ABC on his milestone 50th birthday in August, Jackson hinted, he would be back to work, eventually, saying: 'I'm looking forward to doing a lot of great things. I think the best is yet to come in my true humble opinion.'
We certainly hope so, as we'd like some more of 'Billie Jean'!
