Going by the statistics brought forth by the most recent NPD Group survey, Mac ownership in US households has increased by nearly 33 percent, as compared to the 2008 figures. While last year 9 percent of the US households had at least one Mac, the percentage has now risen to 12 percent.
Furthermore, the latest survey, 'Household Penetration Study,' also reveals that though Apple adoption is clearly rising, as many as 85 percent of the Mac owners also have at least one Windows-based PC.
In addition, the Mac owners are probably more multiple-computer owners than Windows-only households.
The NPD data shows that 66 per cent of households having an Apple computer also owned three or more computers, vis-à-vis only about 29 percent of Windows households having multiple computers.
Moreover, with Mac users being two times more likely than Windows users to have other common consumer electronics, like iPods, large LCD HDTVs, DSLRs, and GPS navigation systems, it is evident that Mac users, by and large, earn more than average.
Commenting on the findings, Stephen Baker, Vice President of industry analysis at NPD, said: "While Apple owners tend to own more computers and more electronics devices, there is also a high correlation among Apple owners and more affluent consumer households. Thirty-six percent of Apple computer owners reported household incomes greater than $100,000, compared to
21 percent of all consumers."
