In a move that reflects HTC's solidarity with Microsoft's Tuesday-launched Windows Mobile 6.5, the company has announced four smartphones that will run the latest Windows Mobile version, namely - the new HD2, Touch2, TouchDiamond2, and Touch Pro2.
Though the initial response and review of Windows Mobile 6.5 has largely been somewhat lackadaisical, HTC's announcement of HD2 on Microsoft's new mobile operating system may well enthuse some of the diehard iPhone users.
The slick and 'ultra thin' HTC HD2 will, incidentally, also be the first Windows phone to include HTC Sense UI, about which HTC CEO Peter Chou said in a statement that it makes "the phone more simple and natural to use and enables people to personalize their mobile experience in their own unique way."
The HD2 also features a high-resolution 4.3-inch capacitive touch display and a 1GHz Snapdragon mobile processor. The singular multi-touch display of the device allows users to pinch or expand their fingers for contracting or expanding Websites, Microsoft Office files and pictures.
Some of the other features of the smartphone include 3G, GPS, Wi-Fi, a 5-megapixel camera, and a standard headphone jack. In addition, to ensure HD2's 'blazing fast' speed, HTC has reportedly given the smartphone a number of notable software tweaks.
The HD2 will initially be rolled out in Europe this month, followed by its launch in the other regions over the coming months.
