Sacramento International secured 10th position among the top airports nationally for on-time arrivals.
At Sacramento International, 83 per cent of flights landed within 15 minutes of the scheduled time over the last 12-month period.
According to the Brookings researchers, 79 per cent of incoming flights met the 15-minute mark over the 1-year period ended June.
86 per cent of outgoing flights left the Sacramento airport within 15 minutes of scheduled time.
The study showed that late arrivals and departures were witnessed at airports in the East where foul weather caused frequent delays.
One out of every three flights arrived late at New York plus Newark airports, giving the worst results.
However, number of passengers at the Sacramento airport fell more than the national average during slump.
The study also showed that the San Francisco-Los Angeles route was the second busiest in the country after New York to Miami.
Adie Tomer, co-author of report, said, "The air travel system has never been under so much stress."
