The recently-unveiled autumn lineup of VAIO laptops from Sony Corp includes supposedly the world's lightest, slim X series device, and a touch-screen L series device. Both the new laptops will feature Microsoft's forthcoming Windows 7 operating system.
The new, super-light VAIO X series laptop is 1.6 pounds in weight and it features an 11.1-inch LED-backlit screen. The chassis of the notebook is made of light-weight carbon fiber, with a covered aluminum frame covering the area around the keyboard.
In addition, the X Series will also feature a 2-GHz Intel processor, 2 GB of DDR2 memory, and a 128-GB solid state drive.
Priced in the range of between 110,000 yen and 130,000 yen, the X series laptop will have a standard lithium ion polymer battery lasting 10 hours, which when combined with a high-capacity battery option, can last nearly 15 hours.
The other autumn offering by Sony, the VAIO L series laptop, will feature a 24-inch wide-screen LCD and will support the multi-touch functions of the Windows 7 operating system.
Priced between 210,000 yen to 240,000 yen, the VAIO L series also features the original Sony software called the "Media Gallery. The singular software recommends music, photos and online YouTube video clips as per the users' preferences.
Both the laptops will be launched in Japan on October 22, to coincide with the launch of the Windows 7 operating system!
