Despite the fact that both Microsoft and T-Mobile had said on Saturday that the data which Sidekick users lost, due to a massive server failure by Microsoft’s Danger subsidiary, had gone for good; it is now being hoped that the recovery of the lost data might just be possible.
Going by a recent statement by David Beigie, T-Mobile’s VP for communications, Microsoft engineers are hopeful that much of the lost data, including contact and photographs, can be recovered.
In addition, Beigie also said a $100 credit, in the form of a “customer appreciation card,” will be forwarded by T-Mobile to those customers who had experienced a significant loss of data.
T-Mobile said: “For those who fall into this category, details will be sent out in the next 14 days - there is no action needed on the part of these customers. We however remain hopeful that for the majority of our customers, personal content can be recovered.”
Though the data loss has not affected all of the nearly one million Sidekick users, T-Mobile has still halted the Sidekick sales till the time the investigation of the issue is not done with completely.
Meanwhile, T-Mobile is also urging the existing users to refrain from removing the battery on Sidekick, resetting the device or letting it run out of power, as the company is working towards restoring its servers.
