Codemasters buys UK-based Swordfish Studios

CodemastersPublisher Codemasters has informed that it has reached an agreement with Activision Vivendi to take over Swordfish Studios.

Under the terms of the agreement, Swordfish Studio’s development team will be integrated and managed as part of Codemasters’ network of studios.

In addition, Trevor Williams, founder and managing director of Swordfish Studios, will continue to lead the studio reporting to Gavin Cheshire, VP, Codemasters Studios.

According to market experts, the deal brings immediate additional resource to Codemasters’ development operations.

However, the company did not disclosed the financial terms of the transaction.

The studios are currently working on 50 Cent: Blood on the Sand for THQ. The firm has worked with Codemasters in the past, developing the Brian Lara Cricket and Jonah Lomu Rugby franchises.

In 2005, VU Games acquired the Birmingham-based games development house for an undisclosed sum.
