According to a Tuesday announcement by Nokia, the company is partnering with AT&T to sell its Booklet 3G wireless netbook, thereby marking Nokia’s foray into the emerging netbook market.
The Nokia Booklet 3G will be available exclusively at Best Buy locations as well as 50 Best Buy Mobile standalone stores, which will begin taking orders for the device on October 22 – thereby coinciding with the release of Microsoft’s Windows 7 operating system.
Along with 3G connectivity, the 2.76-pounds Booklet with an aluminum chassis boasts a 10-inch screen with 1280-by-720 resolution. It runs Windows 7 Home Premium, and uses Intel Atom 1.6 GHz. Processor.
Among the other notable features of the Boklet are – a 120-GB hard-disk drive; 1GB RAM; Wi-Fi; GPS; and webcam. Further, Nokia claims that the 16-cell battery of the device is capable of delivering up to 12 hours of battery life.
The Booklet is likely to hit the stores by the middle of November; and though it is actually priced at $599, it will be available for $299 from AT&T with a two-year contract.
However, to avail the discount from AT&T, customers need to sign-up for a $60-a-month data plan. Hence, the two-year contract practically adds to over $1,400, excluding the computer and taxes – and, it is up to the customers to work out whether the deal is good enough!
