Twitter introduces a feature to help fight spam

A feature dubbed "Report as spam" was added recently by Twitter to its service, with the aim of acquiring help from its users in fighting spam.

A representative from the company said, "Folks can now help us conquer spam by calling our attention to a profile they find questionable. Click the 'Report as spam' button under the Actions section of a profile's sidebar and our Trust and Safety team will check it out to see what needs to be done."

Twitter specified that no automated action will be taken as a result of reporting a user as spam, in order to stop users from simply utilizing the spam feature as a weapon against others they don't like. The representative said, "Users who click the button will automatically have the profile blocked from following or replying to them."

The decision taken by Twitter to introduce "Report as spam" button, can be seen as an effort on behalf of the company to combat spam accounts. Twitter became highly popular in the recent months after some celebrities have opened accounts. The number of unique users for micro-blogging service are also increasing every month. Many users have started using Twitter to promote their products and services.
