Verizon’s recently-launched “iDon’t Droid” TV commercial for the forthcoming ‘Droid’ phone - a device that rumors say is the Motorola Sholes/Tao - is quite a ‘tease’, and is apparently aimed at taking the popular Apple iPhone head-on!
The ad, which has been running during the weekend, brings forth a list of some things that smartphone users cannot do with an iPhone; and thereon moves towards a more futuristic Droid approach, with the catchphrase - “Everything “iDon't…..Droid does!”
The list of ‘iDon’t’ features essentially target other smartphones that ‘lack’ a real keyboard and interchangeable batteries; and are incapable of performing certain tasks like running simultaneous apps; night shots; open development; capability to customize; and running widgets.
The ad boasts the Droid is equipped with the ‘iDon’t’ features, and also has the ability to perform the ‘iDon’t’ tasks.
Overall, the “iDon’t Droid” TV commercial interestingly hints that Verizon, which itself is a wireless provider, has actually decided to rip the iPhone handset maker Apple to promote the Droid.
Going by the buzz, the Droid is seemingly a great device, likely to give notable competition to the market-leading iPhone. And probably, Verizon will have its fingerprints all over the 480 x 854 pixel screen Droid device - the first one to run Android 2.0!
