According to the September video game sales data released by the NPD research firm, Sony's PlayStation 3 (PS3) gaming console managed to outsell the Nintendo Wii by nearly 30,000 units, chiefly due to a PS3 price reduction and the introduction of the PS3 Slim.
Though the Nintendo DS retained its top slot as the leading console with 524,200 units sold during September; the sales figures of the Sony PS3 stood at 491,800 consoles vis-à-vis Nintendo Wii's 462,800 units sold.
Along with the PS3's fierce competition going on with Wii; the Sony console also outsold its chief rival, the Microsoft Xbox 360, by almost 140,000 units - the Xbox's sales for the month stood as
352,600 systems.
Meanwhile the software charts were topped by 'Hao 3: ODST' with 1,520,000 units sold during the month. Moreover, 'The Beatles: Rock Band' for Xbox ranked at fifth place with 254,000 units sold, beating 'Guitar Hero 5' which ranked at ninth spot with 210,800 unit sales.
