Edward Van Tassel, 29, a veteran of the war in Iraq has a restraining order slapped against him, with the court ordering him to stay away from Tom Cruise.
Apparently, Van Tassel wanted to hand-deliver a letter to the actor, to enlist him in the cause of helping other veterans. Robert Landheer, the former soldier’s lawyer says Van Tassel went to Cruise’s Beverly Hills mansion twice, once on 3rd December and then again on Sunday, in an attempt to deliver the letter.
However, on Wednesday, George Eskin, Santa Barbara Superior Court Judge issued a restraining order preventing Van Tassel from coming anywhere near Cruise or his residential property. But, according to Bert Fields, who is Cruise’s lawyer, the actor did not ask for the restraining order.
Just last month, Van Tassel arrested on a weapons charges for brandishing a handgun and an American flag, on a freeway overpass near Santa Barbara, northwest of Los Angeles, was sent to a veterans’ hospital in Los Angeles after pleading guilty. Soon after, he left the facility to try and deliver his letter to Cruise.
Back in hospital where he is receiving psychiatric care, Van Tassel is not permitted to leave the place.
