Pew study: One-fifth of Internet users share personal and business information v

Going by the latest statistics forwarded by the Pew Internet & America Life Project, the massive appeal of the popular microblogging site Twitter has spread so widely across its US users that young adults and teenagers merrily ‘tweet’ their personal and business-related information back and forth.

Overall, the latest Pew study revealed that Twitter’s notable growth of late has chiefly been driven by three types of users – regular users of social networking services like MySpace and Facebook; users of smartphone and mobile device; and young Web surfers.

Statistically speaking, since April this year, there has been an 8 percent increase in the number of Internet users who use ‘tweets’ for sharing personal and business information about themselves. Currently, 19 percent, or one-fifth, of the users share important information via ‘tweets.’

Though Twitter is growing momentously in almost all demographics, it is the younger users that have made the most significant contribution to the company’s growth.

As per the Pew researchers, there has been a twofold year-on-year increase in the number of people, between 18 and 24 years of age, who use some type of status update service, mostly due to Twitter’s escalating success.

Furthermore, the Pew study also revealed for users having four, three, two and one Internet-connected devices, the respective chances of Twitter usage stands at 40 percent, 28 percent, 19 percent, and 10 percent respectively
