California-based Fisker Automotive, producer of luxury electric vehicles, has plans to produce electric cars at a former GM assembly plant in Delaware.

Fisker said it would produce 75,000 to 100,000 plug-in hybrid cars annually, starting from 2012.

Russell Datz, spokesman for company's CEO Henrik Fisker, said that talks were continuing and the announcement could be made as soon as Tuesday.

Recently, the US Department of Energy promised to provide Fisker with a financial assistance of $528 million with a view to help it produce electric plug-in hybrid cars.

Fisker's electric plug-in hybrid cars will be produced under the name Project NINA.

The Delaware plant, idled since July, was built in 1947. Most recently it assembled the Saturn Sky and Pontiac Solstice.
