GFC to Levy Taxes
GFC to Levy Taxes

The Green Fiscal Commission (GFC), which is managed by the members of the Parliament and supported by the three main political parties, is hoping to raise £150 billion from new taxes.

According to the GFC there is a need to raise hundreds of billions of pounds for creating new jobs and reducing of pollution.

Emphasising on three alterations, namely a household energy tax, increasing the fuel duty three times in the coming next 10 years and also imposing a £3,300 tax on new cars, these suggestions are an outcome of a two-year study,

However, the GFC officials have suggested that there should not be any extra burden on taxpayers, rather an increase in green taxes must be followed by a deduction in income tax and National Insurance contributions.

"Cutting tax on employment and increasing tax on pollution would lead to lower carbon emissions and more jobs", said Paul Ekins, the director of the Commission. "The study we have done suggests it could add up to half a million jobs by 2020," he added.

Expecting a support of the political parties, the report gives a valid point. Being cheap, energy is being wasted. However, to change the attitude of the people, the only way is to make the polluters pay.
