Weekly statistics recently reported by ABC News have revealed that although America might soon be saying goodbye to the economic downturn, and the economy has started to stabilize steadily, consumer confidence has hit a three month low, which could be a result of the rising unemployment.
If figures reported are to be believed, the Consumer Comfort Index slipped to -51 in the last week of October, which was a further slip from past week's figure of -50. Although not as low as figures reported last year and early this year, these are pretty close. The lowest ever hit was recorded by the index in the first week of December 2008, where it fell to -54.
The Consumer Confidence Survey from which the figures have been quoted took into consideration interview samples of about 1,000 people which were conducted in the four weeks up-to October 25. The survey reportedly has an error margin of plus/minus 3%.
