Beating all estimates in its third-quarter figures reported, DreamWorks Animation has posted profits which have been much better than expected by analysts and investors. The high sales of the "Monster vs. Aliens" DVD, the company's latest release, is being credited as the reason behind this surge in profits.
In figures which delighted investors and shocked analysts, DreamWorks revealed a third quarter net earnings figure of $19.6 Million, or 23 cents per share. Revenue stood firm at $135.4 Million. While this was lower than last year's figures reported at the same time, which stood at $37.4 Million, or 41 cents a share, and revenue of $151.5 Million, the figures did manage to beat analysts' estimates which pegged each share rate at a mere 16 cents.
DreamWorks is expecting much better profits in the fourth quarter as well the coming year as the firm's two major TV special productions, "Monsters vs. Aliens: Mutant Pumpkins from Outer Space" and "Merry Madagascar" get ready to hit NBC prime-time. In addition, "Merry Madagascar" will also soon hit the home entertainment market.
"We expect to deliver full-year EPS close to the $1.57 that we reported in 2008", shared Lew Coleman, president and chief financial officer of DreamWorks.
