Sony recalls Vaio AC adapters on short-circuiting reports
Sony

In a Wednesday Announcement, Sony said that it has issued a recall of as many as 69,000 Vaio AC adapters, sold with its Vaio notebook products, after having received four different reports of the adapters short-circuiting, because of insulation failure.

The recall of the adapters comes in co-operation with the US Consumer Product Safety Commission, even though there have been no injuries reported thus far, and no incident has been reported in the US.

The AC adapters, numbered Sony VGP-AC19V17, were sold with various series of Vaio notebooks sold after September 2007, including VGC-LT, VGC-JS240, VGC-JS250, VGC-JS270, and VGC-JS290 series. In addition, the adapters also appeared in VGP-PRBX1 and VGP-PRFE1 notebook docking stations, sold September 2005 onwards.

Since Sony will be providing a free replacement for the AC adapters, the consumers who possess the affected computers have been asked by the company to turn off their systems, unplug them, and discontinue the use of the recalled adapters with immediate effect.

In order to submit a request for the replacement of the adapters, the users of affected Sony Vaio devices can visit Sony's support site, esupport. sony. com/ac19adapter, or else call the toll-free helpline number of the company - 877-361-4481 - at any time.
