Recent figures collected from around Germany have revealed that the county's rate of unemployment has unexpectedly fallen in the month of October, which is being taken as definite sign of positive economic environment which is slowly recovering.
The news has also come as a relief to Chancellor Angela Merkel, who is now beginning her second term in the office.
Most, out of the 30 analysts involved in the recent Bloomberg News survey, had predicted that Germany's unemployment situation would worsen and would increase by nearly 15,000 in October. The exact opposite happened and the jobless rate dropped from 8.1% to
8.2%.
HSBC Trinkaus Economist Lothar Hessler, who was one of the very few analysts to predict a decline in joblessness, said, "The figures show that companies are trying hard to shed as few jobs as possible, which is good because it underpins consumer spending".
While the figures have managed to delight everyone, the Government, economists and analysts are still being cautious. Merkel, who yesterday sworn in for a second office term, said that while this is a good development, she is expecting the worst economic crisis in nearly 7 decades to hit Germany through 2011. All cautionary measures, she shared, are thus being taken.
