Americans feel that they are not getting enough sleep whether it is due to the stress, kids or the lure of internet.
The worst case scenario is being faced by people in the eastern United States- particularly West Virginians. This information is based on the results of a state-by-state survey look at people's perceptions of sleep or the lack of it.
The report on sleep suggests that more than one-fourth in the United States sleeps less than seven hours per night.
The National Sleep Foundation says that the body needs seven to nine hours of sleep per night for optimum health.
The lack of rest could lead the nation towards being a chronically ill country. An alarming number of people- 50 to 70 percent- suffer from insomnia and other chronic sleep disorders as per the CDC.
It was found during the survey that North Dakota and California got the maximum sleep.
The CDC noted that the problem in sleep timings was due to the lifestyle choices (use of technology), occupational factors (work shifts and extended work schedules) and chronic diseases
(obesity, depression, hypertension, heart disease and stroke).
The lack of sleep could become a greater issue if some measures are not taken to prevent it. The continuous lack of sleep begins faltering and the body begins to suffer from illnesses more often than longer when there is insufficient sleep.
