Playboy Aplogises For Nude Virgin Mary Cover

Playboy has proffered an apology for putting a nude model, who resembles the Virgin Mary on the cover of their Mexican edition of Playboy magazine, published barely a few days before Mexico’s major festival dedicated to the mother of Jesus.

Playboy hit the news stands 1st December, just as ceremonies began to be held just before Friday’s pilgrimage to the Mexico City shrine of the Virgin of Guadalupe.  Maria Florencia Onori, the model is shown standing in front of a stained glass window, wearing nothing, but for a white cloth over her head and breasts, with a cover line in Spanish saying: ‘We Love You, Maria’ in Spanish.

It is believed that in the sixteenth century, the Virgin of Guadalupe appeared to a sixteenth century Indian peasant.  One of Mexico’s most revered figures, every year an annual pilgrimage is held to her Mexico City basilica and is one of the world’s largest religious events.
