The commercial arm of the UK Atomic Energy Authority has recently been purchased by Babcocok, a leading defense and energy support services company, in a ?50 Million deal. The sale has been a part of the Government's ongoing effort to sell of all public assets. The entire UKAEA Limited was bought out by Babcock.
The wing which has been sold off represents a major chuck of UK's nuclear expertise. In addition, it supervises nuclear clean-up work at as many as three different sites across the country and also offers consultancy services in overseas markets.
The sale, which was completed on October 31, would, the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills is convinced, "help to reinforce the UK's strong heritage in the nuclear industry".
Authorities and influential figures all over the country are viewing the sale as a much positive development. Chairman of the UKAEA, Lady Judge, shared, “The sale of UKAEA Limited is an excellent outcome which will build on the company’s impressive achievements to date. I am grateful to everyone in the company for all their contributions to the success which underpins today’s announcement".
UKAEA Limited currently employs around 230 employees. No reports as to the future of the firm's current workforce have been shared.
