Sony Ericsson to officially announces its 'Rachael' handset

After leaks of the device details on two YouTube videos in recent weeks, Sony Ericsson has finally acknowledged its first-ever Android-based handset, codenamed 'Rachael,' and will officially announce the device today, November 3! The phone will likely hit the stores of some countries in the first half of 2010.

The new Sony Ericsson handset, to be named either the Xperia X3 or X10, boasts the company's own snappy user interface - the much-talked-about Rachael UI - which will officially be called 'UX' to denote 'user experience.'

The phone's Rachael UX boasts a 1 GHz snapdragon processor, and a huge four-inch capacitive display with 480-by-584 resolution. The other notable features of the phone include an 8- megapixel camera; Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity; GPS; and a USB port.

Going by a peak at the leaked shots of the new Xperia, the phone looks quite similar to a standard flip phone; however, the latest video shows that the back of the device is probably akin to a flip phone, but the screen occupies the opposite side of the device, drawing a parallel with the iPhone.

The bottom part of the new Sony Ericsson device's default start screen bears four touch-based menu items - Timescape, Mediascape, Messaging, and Dialer. Further, the Mediascape integrates not only with the company's 'Play Now' online store, but also the media stored on the device and online content from Flickr and other services.
