Bmibaby, Britain's low budget airline, has recently announced that it is looking to axe almost 158 jobs under a new restructuring plan. As confirmed by a spokesperson, as many as 54 pilot and 82 cabin crew jobs across Birmingham, Manchester and Cardiff airports are at a definite "risk of redundancy".
Also, starting next year, the airline has confirmed that it will be bringing down the number of its operational aircrafts from 17 to 12. Additionally at risk, are as many as 22 top end management as well as support positions at the company's head office in Castle Donington, Derby.
Under heavy losses and reducing number of passengers, the carrier has been forced to take the restructuring decision. While, on one hand there will be axing of jobs at aforementioned locations, the restructuring could, as per the company, lead to creation of 10 pilot and 15 cabin crew jobs opportunities on the other hand at the East Midlands Airport in the coming year.
Currently, Bmibaby is in talks with its employees and union representatives on reaching a final call as to how things are to be taken forward.
