Higher Risk of Cancer Relapse in "Dense" Breasts
Dense Breast Cancer

According to a recently published research, women who are treated for breast cancer and have "high density" breasts are more prone to the risk of a relapse. As compared to women who have less dense breasts, those with denser ones are as much as four times more likely to contract cancer post surgery.

Researchers and authors of the study are now advising women with dense breasts to opt for radiotherapy post breast cancer surgery. Women with low density breasts, however, can opt to avoid it.

For the sake of research, which was carried out at the Women's College Hospital in Toronto, medical records of as many as 335 women who had undergone breast surgery were studied. Breasts of patients were classified into low, intermediate and high intensity.

Despite the fact that the findings of the study are being considered much valuable, experts are asserting that further research is needed before any treatment changes are promoted.
