Marking one of the most noteworthy additions that Microsoft has been continually adding to its May-launched Bing search engine, the company has recently announced its tie-up with the computational search engine Wolfram Alpha.

Microsoft Bing, which was launched as a potential challenge to Google, has thus far been promoted in a number of ways, including diverse advertising campaigns; Internet search team-up with Yahoo; and regular roll out of compelling new features like the recent incorporation of feeds from social networking sites, Twitter and Facebook.

Going by the most recent Hitwise and IDC statistics, Microsoft's endeavors have been fruitful enough to help Bing steadily gain traffic as well as revenue. The further addition of Wolfram Alpha will enable Bing to enhance Web searches by processing raw numerical data in areas like health, nutrition, and advanced mathematics.

The inclusion of search results from the "computational knowledge" search tool Wolfram Alpha in a mainstream query engine will put forth actionable statistics rather than a mere links' page - like, search for 'bmi' on Bing will show Wolfram Alpha's body mass index calculator at the top of the results page.

About the partnership with Bing, Wolfram Alpha's Schoeller Porter remarked: "By using our API, Bing will be able to seamlessly access the tens of thousands of algorithms and trillions of pieces of data from WolframAlpha, and directly incorporate the computations in its search results."
