One of the world's top ranked PC manufacturers, Lenovo, is all set to break into the smartbooks market with the announcement of its first ever smartbook in January at the Consumer Electronics Show, as has been confirmed by the company on Thursday.
Although not much information has been shared about the device's name or cost, the smartbook will be powered by Qualcomm's embedded, ARM-based Snapdragon processor, and was mentioned by Qualcomm Chief Executive Paul Jacobs at the company's Investors Day Analyst Conference. The smartbook, which will basically be a notebook, will sport a non-Windows based OS.
"Earlier today was our financial analyst meeting and Paul Jacobs briefly demonstrated a prototype design", a Qualcomm spokeswoman shared. "At this time, that is all the information that we can share.".
Lenovo's smartbook will be sold by AT&T, with most probably a subsidized data plan. The Lenovo-AT&T partnership on the matter has been confirmed by a spokesperson of the wireless telecom and data services provider. "We are working with Lenovo and Qualcomm and believe Lenovo will share more on its device at CES in January", he said while asserting that there were currently no more details to be shared.
The announcement has created a buzz all over, especially with computer junkies. All eyes will now be set on the CES.
