The pharmaceutical giant, Wyeth paid a medical writing company to write favorable articles supporting the use of its HRT drug Prempro. The US Senator Charles Grassley, made the revelation about the unfair tactics of the pharmaceutical company.
Mr. Grassley has been probing the case for quite sometime.
The Senator has asked the writing company based in New Jersey and DesignWrite to provide the details about the articles written in support of the drug. He has also asked for the details of payments made by Wyeth to the company and the names of the scientists involved in the case.
Sen Grassley had revealed a nexus between doctors and medical companies but he says the same thing seems to be happening in journalism as well. According to Grassley this can have serious implications as the reports could mislead both the doctors and the patients.
Wyeth had issued guidelines to the writing company and arranged for scientists to put their names to them. This practice is increasing day by day and is a scary indication of a new trend which could cause potential risk to the lives of the patients.

Medical Ghostwriters.
Tell us something we don't already know! It's obvious this has been going on for years. It's called P.R.. Mainstream TV News is also writing articles and doing news based "commercials" all the time that blatantly favor Big Pharma and promoting new drugs. They also write bad press about alternative and preventive medicine to bolster pharma sales and further reliance on the medical industry.
Medical Ghostwriters
Is this something new, or just an article about a common practice that has been happening for a long time? It makes common sense when one realizes why pharmaceuticals are so expensive. They can get product patents on chemical derivatives, with a huge profit potential, giving them the funds to hire a good "ghostwriter".
Why not? They get away with it. For the vast array of ancient and natural herbal remedies with great nutritional standards to get funding, AMA interests, pharmaceutical companies, and hospitals would take a big financial hit, while organic farmers might finally make the main stream!
Do you think we really need health care reform?
