USA TODAY has reported that some pharmacies are charging three times the price for the same dose of Tamiflu as compared to others in its liquid form of the H1N1. This is being investigated by two states’ attorneys general.
According to USA TODAY’s phone survey of more than 100 pharmacies across six states the out-of-pocket price to fill the same liquid tamiflu prescription can range from $43 to $130.
Connecticut Attorney General Richard Blumenthal, who is investigating after finding similar price variations in his state said, "We're very concerned because there is a shortage and exploiting a shortage is unconscionable."
Attorney General Jim Hood said, that they would enquire from anyone who had any reports of overcharging for Tamiflu or the H1N1 vaccine to please call us.
The drugmaker giant, Roche, is focusing on making Tamiflu capsules that are faster to produce due to the shortage of liquid. Some pharmacies make their own by mixing Tamiflu capsules into sweet syrup.
A CVS spokesperson said that some variation in the prices may be due to the cost and dosage of Tamiflu capsules stocked by a pharmacy.
