Procter & Gamble

Voluntary recall of 120,000 bottles of Vicks Sinex nasal spray has been ordered by Procter & Gamble Co. after finding bacteria B. cepacia in a small amount of the product made at its plant in Gross Gerau, Germany, and sold in United States.

The bacteria could cause serious infections for an individual with a weakened immune system. No cases of illnesses have been reported yet.

The problem is under control and the infected bottles are limited to a single batch of raw material mixture which has three lots of the products sold in the U. S., United States, Germany and the United Kingdom.

The company says that it has informed the regulatory authorities in the affected countries. The company has its base in Cincinnati.

The bacteria was detected in small quantities of the U. S. lot after it was shipped and samples are being tested from the U. K. and German lots by the company which was produced by the same raw material mixture in Gross Gerau, Germany.

P&G has clarified that the medication should not be used by any consumers and should call the company immediately for a refund or replacement coupon.
