Perhaps, little children are the best critics after all, and while Tom Cruise's 'Tropic Thunder' may have earned him a Golden Globe nomination, however, little Suri Cruise doesn't seem so gung-ho about his impersonation of Santa Claus.
At a press conference for his new film 'Valkyrie' hitting theatres 25th December, Cruise reveals Christmas plans, despite being a devout Scientologist, saying his Santa Claus impersonation needs to be worked on some more, as last year he wasn't able to fool anyone, leave alone two year old Suri, who seeing him in his Santa outfit Katie made, took one look and went: 'No, dada.'
Asked what the little tyke would like for Christmas, dscribing Christmas in New York as a little bit of 'magic' Cruise reveals Suri likes to colour, likes dolls and stuffed animals, and is really easy about stuff like that. As for his teenagers by adoption, 16-year-old Bella and 13-year-old Connor, Cruise says, they want a cool pair of sneakers, different books they like. more like a quiet time, just hanging out.
Plugging his Holocaust movie in which he plays the role of Colonel Claus von Stauffenberg, a German army officer, who hatched a plan to assassinate Adolf Hitler and bring the Nazi regime tumbling down, Cruise found the entire experience of shooting in Berlin at the same locations, these people lived and died, very powerful, indeed!
He says it is a role that taps into a storyline that has been a part of the Top Gunner's thoughts since childhood. According to Cruise, he grew up playing with neighbourhood kids who wanted to kill Hitler and the Nazis, and remembers thinking as a child, why no one shot Hitler. Which is why, Valkyrie is an important story needing to be told, how not everyone fell for the Nazi ideology.
On the movies he makes, Cruise says : '. it's about us, it's not about me. It's about the journey we all take together... I grew up wanting to travel the world and I wanted an adventurous life,' adding: 'Sometimes I get a little more adventure than I had ever bargained for.'
