Risk of stroke reduces in men who work out

Exercises have always been recommended by doctors and healthcare experts for a good health and to prove it even further a new study has revealed that vigorous exercise like swimming and playing tennis could prove very helpful in cutting the risk of stroke in men.

The researchers at the Columbia University Medical Center involved 3,298 men and women in New York with an average age of 69. It was reported by the researchers that men who were able to participate in exercises like jogging, swimming and playing tennis had a 63 percent reduced risk of stroke in comparison with their lesser active counterparts.

The group which exercised saw a cut down in the risk of stroke by 2.75 percent whereas in the non-exercise group the risk was reduced by 4.6 percent. The researchers reported this in the medical journal of the American Academy of Neurology called 'Neurology'.

The author of the Study Dr. Joshua Z. Willey said in a released statement, "Taking part in moderate-to-heavy intensity physical activity may be an important factor for preventing stroke, a large percentage of the participants were not taking part in any physical activities Identifying ways to improve physical activity among these people may be a key goal for public health."
