According to a Monday announcement by AT&T, the telecom carrier is all set to release the first add-on projector phone in the US – the LG eXpo – on December 7.
A Windows Mobile 6.5-based smartphone, the LG eXpo boasts a built-in fingerprint sensor and an optional snap-on “pico-projector” which is powered by a Qualcomm 1-GHz processor. For the smartphone’s projector, LG has made use of the technology from the Dallas-based Texas Instruments.
Without the projector, the Expo is a reasonably sized slider smartphone at 4.5 inches by 2.24 inches by 0.65 inches. It has a slide-out QWERTY keyboard, a 5-megapixel camera, a 3.2-inch,
800-by-480 screen, Wi-Fi, HSDPA 7.2, and a giant honking 1500 mAh battery.
Going by the LG Website, the projector is essentially an optional, add-on accessory for the eXpo, and it will be sold separately. As per AT&T, the 1.8-ounce projector is capable of projecting an image up to eight feet.
Other than the optional projector attachment, the eXpo smartphone features a 3.2-inch, 800-by-480 screen; a slide-out QWERTY keyboard; a 5-megapixel camera; Wi-Fi; HSDPA 7.2; and a 1500 mAh battery. The phone also boasts GPS; Bluetooth; a proximity sensor; an accelerometer; and an on-board FM radio.
The LG eXpo will cost $299.99 with a new, two-year AT&T contract. The projector attachment which, according to AT&T, will be available “in the coming weeks” will cost $179.99.
