In what can be termed as the most aggressive discount being offered for the Christmas shopping season in the UK, the HMV retail chain has announced a whopping £100 reduction in the price of the Sony PlayStation Portable (PSP Go).
Launched at the E3 games expo earlier this year, the PSP Go is the first of the Sony handheld devices that has done away with the contentious UMD format in support of downloadable games.
With most of the retailers expecting somewhat modest sales during the forthcoming festive season, HMV’s price-cut for PSP will bring the cost of the gaming device’s black version to £148.99. Meanwhile, the cost of the white model of the PSP will be £199.99.
Since HMV, announcing the aggressive PSP Go price on its Twitter feed, has clearly said that the discounted offer would be available only for a short period of time, avid gamers desiring to lay their hands on the Sony gaming console should grab the discount at the earliest.
Describing the reduced-price offer on the Sony PSP as “very limited,” HMV itself advised the interested buyers to “be quick.”
The HMV deal gives an implicit indication that the festive season this year may witness plentiful gadget bargains – more so with the Interactive Media in Retail Group projecting a nearly £5bn at online retail outlets’ shopping expenditure by UK shoppers in December this year!
