Daughter of former US President Bill Clinton and present Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, Chelsea Clinton has announced her engagement to Marc Mezvinsky, long-time boyfriend of the Clintons' only child.

29 year old Chelsea was the last child to grow up in the White House and is currently employed with a New York based hedge fund. The engagement was announced via a mass e-mail which the would-be-bride sent to all her friends. Mezvinsky is currently working as an investment banker.

The official announcement has come after a widespread false rumor that the couple had wed last summer in August at the resort island of Martha's Vineyard.

"We're sorry for the mass email but we wanted to wish everyone a belated Happy Thanksgiving! We also wanted to share that we are engaged! We didn't get married this past summer despite the stories to the contrary, but we are looking toward next summer and hope you all will be there to celebrate with us. Happy Holidays! Chelsea & Marc", read the e-mail.
