Luxury Car Maker Spyker in Talks with GM over Purchase of Saab Automobile

Dutch luxury car manufacturer, Spyker, based in Netherlands, is currently in talks with General Motors over purchase of Sweden based Saab Automobile, merely weeks after the local Koenigsegg decided to drop its bid.

Last year, Spyker manufactured 43 cars, and each production of the automobiles makers sells for 200,000 Euros ($301,400) and above. The company's interest in buying Saab, and its ongoing talks with GM have been confirmed by an official spokesperson for the firm.

Koenigsegg, manufacturer of sports cars valued at nearly $1 Million apiece, decided to drop the Saab deal which had it been pursuing, backed by China's Beijing Automotive Industrial Holding Ltd. "We have a great belief in Saab... their product range and what the deal promised. The problem is we can still not see a date when the deal can be finalized", Founder Christian von Koenigsegg had shared.

The move put the future of the 60-year-old automaker, which serves the mass-market, in serious doubt. Saab is particularly known for its 9-5 and 9-3 sedans.

In response to Spyker's offer, GM, which is currently in the process of restructuring its European operations after a long time of bankruptcy protection earlier in the year, has shared that it would thoroughly consider all offers that have come in for Saab till December end, and then take a decision. If nothing suitable comes along, the firm will be closed.
