Flipshare TV, as Companion to its Pocket Camcorder, Announced by Cisco

To accompany its pocket sized mini HD Flip camcorder, Cisco Systems on Tuesday announced its latest offering, that effectively lets users play their captured 720p videos on HDTVs, the Flipshare TV.

The new product is essentially made up of three parts - a base station which connects to a television set or a HDTV, a remote control and a USB dongle which enable wireless transmission of videos from a PC to the base station. A program called Flipshare 5.0 is also bundled with the offering, and it lets users manage their Flip videos easily, as well as communicates directly with the base station.

Despite the fact that the wireless adapter and the base station communicate via Wi-Fi 802.11n protocol, they are not compatible with other devices with the same protocol, as these come pre-configured to communicate only with each other, and that too through Flipshare
5.0.

The base station of the new device can be plugged directly into a standard definition TV or HDTV. Current owners of Flip camcorder can choose to upgrade to the Flipshare 5.0 software.

Although a launch date has not been confirmed by Cisco, and neither have there been announcements on the price, experts have estimated that the Flipshare TV would cost around $149.99.
