Designed to work with the most recent Flip camcorder software, FlipShare 5.0, the new set-top box can connect to a TV with the help of an HDMI cable that comes with the device, along with a big USB dongle that hooks up to the USB port on a PC or Mac.
The console and the dongle are pre-configured in terms of establishing wireless communication, which facilitates the streaming of the video stored on the computer to the TV. The peer-to-peer
802.11n Wi-Fi connection makes FlipShare TV communication possible.
In addition, while the remote control of the FlipShare TV enables the users to click through video via the TV interface of the device, the FlipShare 5.0 software provides the users with the ability to organize, edit, as well as share video online, like on the YouTube. The software also helps upload video to Flip’s FlipChannel service, wherein channels set up by users can be accessed by selected friends and family.
To be available at a retail price of $150, the FlipShare TV can initially work only with Flip camera videos, and is not compatible with other videos on a computer’s hard drive.
