Coming up with yet another 'cool' offering, Internet search bigwig Google launched its dictionary product on Thursday. The Google Dictionary is now a formalized full-fledged tool that not only provides succinct definitions and synonyms; but also leverages Google's translation technology.
Google Dictionary is easily accessible via both Google's Dictionary page as well as a regular Web search, wherein users can access words through regular search by clicking on the 'definitions' link on the top right side of the results page.
Google's new feature-packed dictionary resource actually extends beyond a mere definition of words and their synonyms - it also comprises other useful information, like an International Phonetic Alphabet (IPA) pronunciation guide, and usage examples.
In addition, the Google Dictionary also contains a collection of aggregated external links to Princeton University, Wikipedia, and other sites to provide the users more comprehensive definitions and usages of the word searched.
Moreover, the Google Dictionary is not only for English - it contains 27 other languages, including the main Western European languages, Arabic, Chinese, Korean, and Hebrew, among others. However, the project presently does not include either Japanese or Persian.
The translation technology-based English-to-foreign language component of the Google Dictionary gives the users the added advantage of translating single words from English into the foreign languages and vice versa.
