Recall ordered for all slim-fast cans

All cans of the slim-fast ready-to-eat canned products are being recalled since there could be a possibility of a contamination with Bacillus cereus, a bacterium which may lead to diarrhea and possible nausea or vomiting.

Unilever United States, Inc. has ordered the voluntary recall in corporation with the FDA.

A Unilever news release states, "The probability of serious adverse health consequences is remote." Unilever says it issued the recall "out of an abundance of caution" based on its quality testing of Slim-Fast ready-to-drink (RTD) products in cans.

All ready-to-drink slim-fast products sold in cans are included in the recall irrespective of the flavors, “Best-By” date, lot code, or UPC number.

No other slim-fast products like powdered shakes, meal bars or snack bars have been included in the recall.

The recalled cans are sold as individual items and packaged in paperboard cartons containing four, six, or 12 steel cans which are marked “11 FL OZ (325 mL)” each.

People are urged by Unilever to immediately discard slim-fast ready-to-drink products in cans and call the company at 800-896-9479 for a complete refund.

Unilever’s Consumer Services Center is open Monday-Friday from 8:30 a. m. to 6 p. m. Eastern time. Everyday, a recorded message is accessible around the clock.

Unilever states that it "is in the process of identifying and correcting the production issue, and will resume production and shipping of the product when the issue has been addressed and corrected."
