According to information forwarded by the Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) of the US Department of Agriculture, nearly 22,723 pounds of ground beef products are being recalled by the Arizona Safeway stores, over salmonella concerns. The recall also affects a few Safeway stores in Gallup, N.M.
Marked with ‘sell by’ dates from September 28 till October 11, the meat being recalled was produced by Beef Packers Inc., which is a subsidiary of Cargill Inc., and is based in Fresno, California.
As per FSIS, the recalled ground beef products were produced on September 23, 2009. These products carry the establishment number ‘EST. 31913,’ which has been printed on the case code labels.
Saying that the meat could be linked with salmonella outbreak, Safeway officials said on Friday that the stores are not being sold by the stores any longer. They also added that they are asking the customers to clear their freezers of the recalled meat.
The recalled fresh ground beef had been sold at the full-service counter at Arizona Safeway stores, which is now offering the full refunds for any of the recalled meat products that the customers return.
