Friendster unveils its overhauled design; likely to be acquired by Asian buyer
Friendster

According to a report by Reuters, Friendster, the pioneer social network which Thursday unveiled an overhauled design, would likely be acquired by an Asian buyer for $100 million by December- end.

Virtually the first social network, Friendster currently has nearly 75 million registered users, with 90 percent of its traffic coming from the Asia-Pacific region - a demographic that has kept the site going in the last few years, especially after it was overshadowed by other social networks like Facebook and MySpace.

With the site already having initiated translated versions two years back, the revamped Friendster now comprises a collection of features that have been designed to benefit from the social-gaming craze: a virtual currency, a wide range of games, and virtual gifts.

The revamped design of Friendster now features a bright green cloud displaying the site's name - instead of the earlier blue Friendster logo - largely to appeal to the 16-24 year-olds who comprise almost 80 percent of the total Friendster users.

Talking about the revamped design, Friendster spokesman Jeff Roberto said: "It's a new "energetic logo symbolizing fun, personalization and individuality among youth. We've responded to the needs and wants of our core user base, Asian youth."

Roberto added: "Friendster is dominant among the youth sector in Asia, and today, Asia represents the largest and fastest growing Internet and mobile phone user populations in the world."
