According to a study published in the journal Nature, administering the so-called macho hormone Testosterone to women promotes the qualities of level-headedness and fair play in women!
The study, conducted in part at the Royal Holloway Hospital, north London, by the University of Zurich scientists noted that if the testosterone treatment was administered to the women without their knowledge, one single dose is sufficient enough to have the mentioned effects.
Underlining the suggestion that the mind can win over hormones, the study also noted that if women realize that they had received the hormone and not an imitation drug, they may turn to greed and egocentricity.
The observations of the study were based on tests carried out on a group of 121 volunteers; half of whom were given a testosterone pill, and the other half a placebo. Upon involving them in a behavioral game about sharing out money, it was found that the testosterone group was not only more likely to propose fair offers of sharing, but was also more co-operative in case of unfair sharing.
Refuting the aggression-related myths about testosterone, Michael Naef, of the Royal Holloway Hospital, said the new findings reveal that “the popular belief that testosterone makes you aggressive is inaccurate. People use it as an excuse. It appears that it is not testosterone itself that induces aggressiveness, but rather the myth surrounding the hormone.”
