AT&T is considering options to encourage its iPhone users to use less wireless data.
At an investor conference in New York on Wednesday, Ralph de la Vega, head of AT&T Mobility, said that AT&T was finding ways to get consumers to trim down their data usage.
Wireless operator may also introduce new pricing models to curb excessive data usage in order to keep up with growing demand.
An independent wireless analyst Chetan Sharma said that some countries put limits on the usage of wireless data to manage excessive demand.
Speaking on the issue, he added, “You use more minutes, you pay more.”
According to AT&T, just 3 per cent of its smartphone users account for around 40 per cent of data usage.
Ralph de la Vega further said that most of the smartphone users were unaware which applications use a lot of bandwidth and which do not.
AT&T is providing unlimited wireless data service for a flat rate of $30 per month.
