According to announcements by Google as well as Twitter cofounder Biz Stone, the Google Friend Connect product - which plugs social-networking features into participating sites - would integrate with the micro-blogging service, Twitter.
Google's compatibility with Twitter implies that Twitter account holders can use their login ID on any other site also integrated with Google Friend Connect; and Google account holders can use their Google account ID to sign up for Twitter.
The official Google blog explained if you go to a site that uses Google Friend Connect, you can opt to use your Twitter credentials to log in to it. Then, you can then find which of your other Twitter friends are using the same site, and send out a 'tweet' announcing that you've joined up.
It is rumored that Facebook Connect - Google's rival log-in product, which rolled out to a full launch on the same day as Google Friend Connect - tried to buy Twitter in a failed $500 million deal, offering $100 million in cash and $400 million in inflated Facebook stock.
There is no information about whether the Twitter's Google Friend Connect deal is an 'exclusive' integration; however, one thing is for sure that Twitter would integrate Google before Facebook.
In fact, both Google and Facebook want their users to sign up for the "connect" services, thereby enabling the companies to keep tabs on how their users behave across the Web. Such knowledge can lead to better, more profitable ads and ad networks in the future.
