It has been reported that Beijing Autos, in a deal which would be a breakthrough for the Chinese manufacturer of automobiles, has agreed to acquire car and engine technology from General Motor's Saab Automobile, thereby making it easier for the German manufacturer to sell the rest of Saab to another potential buyer.
The deal was confirmed on Monday by the state-owned Beijing Automotive Industry Holding, although no confirmations or details have been shared on the financial aspects of the deal, or any other terms.
"This arrangement is excellent for both parties, now and for the future. We have developed a good relationship with BAIC and look forward to working with them to integrate this Saab technology into their future vehicles", said Jan Aake Jonsson, Managing Director of Saab Automobile.
As reported by the Chinese company, it will be getting its hands on the right to a certain "powertrain" technology for "Saab's 9-5 and 9-3 sedans, including engine and gearbox knowhow". The technology will be integrated in BAIC's own vehicles.
General Motors is now holding talks with potential suitors who have expressed an interest in purchasing the whole of Saab.
