Close on the heels of the release of the top searches lists by search market biggies, Google, Yahoo, and Microsoft Bing, Twitter unveiled its list of 'hottest tweet topics' on December 15. Twitter tabulated seven categories that Twitter users apparently tweet the most about - news events, people, movies, TV shows, sports, technology and hash tags.
The News Events list was topped by 'Iranian elections,' with users tweeting en bloc about the controversial elections; followed by the dreaded pandemic 'swine flu' in the second place, and 'Gaza' in the third.
In the People category, the people that the maximum number of Twitter users tweeted about included Michael Jackson in the top slot; Susan Boyle in the second; and Adam Lambert in the third place.
While the top three tweets for Movies included Harry Potter; New Moon; and District 9; the leading three TV shows maximum tweeted about included American Idol; Glee; and Teen Choice Awards.
The tweeting trends in the Sports category showed Super Bowl in the first place; followed by Lakers and Wimbledon in the second and third place respectively.
In the categories of Technology and Hash Tags, the tweeting trends went in the favor of Google Wave; Snow Leopard; and Tweetdeck in the first second and third place respectively for the former; and #musicmonday; #iranelection; and #sxsw respectively for the latter.
