Scientists in the Netherlands think that foods can be designed to release filling aromas during chewing. According to the researchers, such foods would obesity which is now a global epidemic.
Scientists have turned their efforts to include foods that release hunger-quenching aromas while chewing.
New generations of foods contain molecules that would signal the brain about being full rather than telling the stomach.
Following a review of research on the topic Rianne Ruijschop and colleagues are discovering the idea that foods with aromas that gratify hunger might help battle obesity.
With the focus of the analysis on the olfactory senses their analysis showed that aromas released during chewing could actually satisfy hunger.
The idea is to include food that require more chewing and provide lingering aftertastes and aromas, a new approach that the scientists hope would help control obesity by signaling the brain to stop eating.
The authors calling the idea promising and appealing wrote, "To implement the idea, real food products need to be developed. Foods that provide lingering aromas and aftertaste could help consumers feel full with less food further helping in curbing obesity.”
