Going by a Thursday afternoon statement by Palm CEO Jon Rubenstein, the forthcoming CES trade show in January will see Palm "showcase" "the full production developer program"; and familiarize the owners of its smartphones - Pre and Pixi - with an important WebOS update for their phones.
Despite the fact that there are rumors galore about a potential Pre and Pixi for Verizon Wireless, there has been no disclosure about whether such a device will be unveiled at the CES trade show.
Speaking at an earnings call, coming after a rather dismal quarterly result posted by Palm, Rubenstein said: "Our focus is around having a small family of really great products. Right now we have two great products in Pre and Pixi and our objective right now is to expand with more carriers and more regions."
Talking about the new WebOS 1.3.5, Rubenstein elaborated that the company's updated operating system will not only enable Palm smartphone users to download and store more applications; but will also notably improve Wi-Fi, application performance, and battery life; as well as increase the speed and responsiveness of the Pixi.
Noting that there currently are "over 800" apps available for Palm phones, Rubenstein added that with the developer program going fully public at the CES, the company expects to have "thousands of developers in very short order," and will encourage independent directories of WebOS apps.
